Today is the last day for past participants to submit their art to the mods! New participants should have already submitted their art or requested an extension.

If you need an extension, WRITE THE MODS IMMEDIATELY. Any participants we do not hear from by December 6th will be assumed to have dropped out—This means we will not only begin to look for a pinch hitter to fill your spot, but you will not be able to participate in the fest next year. We're very willing to work with you, so please let us know if you need a little more time.

Hello, 2010 Yuletarters!

We've finally finished making your matches and sending out assignments, oof! If there is any trouble with your assignment, NOW IS THE TIME TO LET US KNOW. There are 91 of you this year, so mistakes are bound to happen. If you have an issue, please let us know via the mod email ASAP: yuletart@gmail.com.

REGARDING YOUR SUBMISSION

Remember that Yuletart is about the joy of creating art together, not about who is "best" or "most perfect." You should not only be able to put forth your very best effort, but be able to appreciate the effort of others regardless of their level of skill. We know that "effort" is a very subjective concept, so for our purposes we're defining it as an art or craft that has gone through at least one rough draft, gotten objective advice from a third party, and then edited into a final, more polished work. (Note: Mom and Dad probably aren't going to be objective about your art. If you can't find an objective beta, try artbeta . The artists there are patient, generous and willing to work with all skill levels. You can even ask for one-on-one help via email.)

IMPORTANT EDIT/ NOTE:

Out of necessity, some artists were matched based on their requested fandoms, not just those they were willing to draw for.  When the list of fandoms an applicant is willing to draw is very short, or lacking in heavily-requested fandoms, we pull from the request list as well.  While we try to honor the application as much as possible, sometimes the best fit we can find is based on mutual requests.  Please make sure there is no overlap between what you were given and what you requested before contacting us about a bad match.

Past participants, have you gotten all of your fandom nominations in? Fandom nominations will officially close to both nominations and seconds at midnight Pacific time on September 16! That means you've got just over a day left!

If new fandoms receive less than 3 votes, they're unlikely to be chosen for the set list. Remember, though, that even if they don't make it onto the set list, you can put as many wildcard fandoms on your sign-up form as you like, so don't be too worried if your fandom doesn't get enough support.

Also, don't forget that you can add support to as many nominations as you like!

As always, thanks to Co-Mods itsbeenvery and bzzinglikeneon for being awesome and lovely and helping me with the stuff I didn't want to do. :D This is a team effort to make this fest happen, and it shows.

And thank you to all of the amazing artists: the participants! No, seriously: we had 100 participants this year, and 99 artists submitted art, zomg. That statistic is ridiculously miraculous in a holiday fandom fest, so you all deserve a lot of praise and gratitude not just for creating beautiful artwork, but also getting it to us. Thank you!

SECRET SANTA CRAFTERS!
There were some lucky participants who had the option of contacting their Secret Santa to arrange to own their gifts. If you are either the not-so-secret artist or the one to get the gift, please feel free to contact each other to make arrangements! yuletart does not manage any physical exchanges, but we are always happy to host them.

As for the art, it was an incredible turnout of illustrations and crafts. I was thoroughly floored by the entries for 2009, and I owe my love to all the participants, both new and returning. Here's hoping we'll see you again this year, for yuletart 2010!

Are you as excited as we are for yuletart to begin posting? Because we are REALLY excited.

And because we want to make this year fun, exciting and special, the Mods have decided to take a few extra days to make sure all the art is wrapped up nice and tidy before we begin posting. Therefore, we pushed the start date a few days back. Not too much! But enough to give us a small window of breathing room. So this is what it'll look like:

December 4, 2009 - Anonymous posting of giftart begins! We will average 3 - 4 posts per day right up until the end of December.
December 31: Anonymous posting of giftart ends!
January 04: Artists are revealed!

By now, everyone should have been emailed their Assignment for Yuletart 2009. Please check your emails! If you did not receive your Assignmment, please contact us (yuletart AT gmail.com).

An important reminder:

yuletart promotes the joy of giving between fanartists. This includes ensuring that there is love and effort put into each gift. Then we know the recipients will be delighted not only from fanart of their favourite fandoms, but also from the knowledge that a lot of caring was put into making their giftart.

In short, we would like to ensure that you dedicate time and thought to your submission in order to make it a giftart to be valued, enjoyed and appreciated by your giftee.

If you need suggestions in regards to technical aspects of the artwork, we encourage you to join the Livejournal comm artbeta, where fellow fandom artists will be happy to help you out.

The Set List has now been created. You are encouraged to specify what your preference is for certain fandoms that have many categories. This will help your gift-giver know what to draw for you.

Anyway what now? Well, confirmation emails have now been emailed to everyone who has signed up.

Please check your emails and validate your email address!
