Yuletart 2013 is officially over! Apart from a few minor hiccups, things went smoothly this year and, most importantly, we got to see some really fantastic, fun art! Special thanks go out to our pinch hitters, you guys were life savers. We hope everyone had a great time, and we'll see you next year!

Yuletart is officially over! It's been a bit of a bumpy year, but we hope that the experience has been rewarding for all of our artists. The mods offer their sincere apologies for any confusion that may have happened this year—Our main organizer for previous years and total goddess, [livejournal.com profile] glockgal, was unable to give much time to Yuletart this year, and our first goal was to have the fest happen at all (It almost didn't!). You know how it is when you sit down at someone else's computer and it feels strange? Well, we were kind of figuring things out as we went along, and we appreciate everyone's patience as we worked to make Yuletart happen.

In the coming year, the mods are going to sit down and evaluate the fest's entire process from top to bottom to try and figure out ways to make things more smooth for everyone next year. Two important changes we know for sure we'll be making will be:
  • Eliminating the separate "what you want to get" and "what you can give" sections on the sign-up form. Instead, there will be one section for "art you are willing to give and/or receive" and another for any additional fandoms you are willing to give but don't want to get. We had to occasionally make matches this year using the "what you want to get" section due to a lack of more obscure fandoms, and the resulting confusion over that was our biggest issue this year.

  • Additionally, part of next year's confirmation process will be you listing at least 5 artists from the sign-up post you'd like to give art to. Making matches is a tricky process, and we hope that this combined with the above will both make it easier on the mods and better ensure that you guys are getting the assignments you really want.

We also plan to post more reminders so that the fest doesn't slip your minds. Just as we do every year, we invite you to offer ideas for how you feel the fest can be improved. We can't promise that we'll use every idea offered, but we will definitely take them all under consideration. Please keep in mind, however, that running a fest is hard work and none of us get paid for it! We'd especially like ideas on how to revamp/better the fandom nomination process, as it remains somewhat unwieldy.

Thanks very much to everyone who participated, especially to those of you who submitted art on time and/or were pinch hitters. Fellow mod [livejournal.com profile] thoracopagus was a pinch hit star, stepping up to do 3! We only had a handful of pinch hits to make, though, so we count that as a big win. Have a wonderful 2011, and we will see you next fall!

THANK YOUs
As always, thanks to Co-Mods [livejournal.com profile] itsbeenvery and [livejournal.com profile] bzzinglikeneon for being awesome and lovely and helping me with the stuff I didn't want to do. :D This is a team effort to make this fest happen, and it shows.

And thank you to all of the amazing artists: the participants! No, seriously: we had 100 participants this year, and 99 artists submitted art, zomg. That statistic is ridiculously miraculous in a holiday fandom fest, so you all deserve a lot of praise and gratitude not just for creating beautiful artwork, but also getting it to us. Thank you!

Special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] xlickthespark, who was quite generous in letting her art be re-gifted. <3

And thank you to EVERYONE who left feedback - the artists supporting artists, as well as the art-lovers who followed a link to Yuletart. Your kind words are an important part of what fuels this fest, and it's greatly appreciated by all.

SECRET SANTA CRAFTERS!
There were some lucky participants who had the option of contacting their Secret Santa to arrange to own their gifts. If you are either the not-so-secret artist or the one to get the gift, please feel free to contact each other to make arrangements! [livejournal.com profile] yuletart does not manage any physical exchanges, but we are always happy to host them.

FINAL WORDS
If you have any suggestions on how to make this fest better and more fun for you, please feel free to comment here and let us know. Comments will be screened for the sake of privacy, should you prefer it.

And of course, you're free to repost your art wherever you please, with your own signature. Thank you for letting us watermark for this fest.

As for the art, it was an incredible turnout of illustrations and crafts. I was thoroughly floored by the entries for 2009, and I owe my love to all the participants, both new and returning. Here's hoping we'll see you again this year, for [livejournal.com profile] yuletart 2010!

THANK YOU
This has been an extraordinary fest. Our drop-out rate and pinch hitter requirements were so low, I was incredibly impressed not just by the artist turnaround time by almost everyone, but also the amazing quality of art produced. Artists: you amaze me with your dedication to this. Thank you!

Thank you to my co-mods [livejournal.com profile] bzzinglikeneon and [livejournal.com profile] itsbeenvery, who did all the gritty stuff that I was too lazy/disorganized to do! This fest, like the fanartist community, was a joint effort.

Special thank you to our pinch hitters [livejournal.com profile] nightambre and [livejournal.com profile] craterchest, who were magnificent and intrepid. Thank you also to [livejournal.com profile] keraha, [livejournal.com profile] dun and [livejournal.com profile] adalanne for letting us re-gift - you're all life-savers!

Even more thank yous to everyone who left feedback, and promoted the fest on their own journals, and rec'ced their favourite artworks, and who just plain love fanart enough to encourage and comment and cheer. You're what make drawing in fandom so wonderful and rewarding.

FEEDBACK
As before, we are always interested in hearing your feedback. This is our second year doing this, and we love to know how we can improve and what we should keep doing.

1) What did you enjoy about Yuletart?
2) What would you like to improve about Yuletart?
3) How did you find the deadlines?
4) Did you get enough reminders/info about deadlines?
5) Were the 5 -6 art postings per day too many/not enough, too long/too short?

If you'd rather comment anonymously, IP logging is turned off. Alternately, you can always email us privately with any concerns: yuletart AT gmail.com.

Thanks again to everyone for making such a great start for 2009!

As some of you have already gandered - the reveals are up! We also have a masterlist, for your browsing convenience. Again, this list is arranged alphabetically, by fandom.

AND THAT'S IT!

Or is it...?

We Mods have discussed all of the suggestions and, based on your fantastic amount of feedback, here's a loose outline of what's in the future for [livejournal.com profile] yuletart.

What to Expect in 2008 )

So please stay tuned! The holiday fanart exchange may be over, but we will be keeping the LJ comm [livejournal.com profile] yuletart open during the year for announcements and further information regarding keeping our fanart community interactive and friendly.

And I stress - of course, we Mods can only set up the infrastructure. The rest will be up to you.

Than you again! And a special last thank you to [livejournal.com profile] kittehkat - it was pointed out to us that this lovely fanartist took the time to comment on everyone's fanart. Now that is love and dedication. Yuletart doesn't give out awards (perhaps we should?), but I'm willing to make one exception.

[livejournal.com profile] kittehkat is our MCV: Most Valued Commenter! Thank you so much for making such a wonderful contribution to this community, you intrepid you!
