Happy Yuletart, zelempa!

Title: Fraser and Ray
Gift for: [livejournal.com profile] zelempa
Artist:  [livejournal.com profile] ria_oaks
Rating: G
Fandom: Due South
Warnings: None

Artist's Notes: You mentioned liking handmade art in your
request, so I decided to try drawing a romantic colour pencil portrait
of Fraser and RayK. Then I saw your letter and you said that you like
post-series arctic romance, so I added in their arctic clothing from
CotW. :) I'm very happy with it, but unfortunately colour pencil
drawings don't seem to scan that well so the scan doesn't really do it
justice... a lot of the colour got lost in translation, even after
fiddling with brightness/contrast. You are certainly welcome to the
original, however - you can contact me after the reveal so we can set
that up.

As a bonus, since the scan was rather disappointing and also because I
thought it'd be fun, I've also included a semi-digital version. I
blurred all the pencil crayon lines then painted over it a bit. I also
added back in the light blue background that the scan completely
eradicated... It was fairly quickly done, but I quite like it anyway.
:) Hope you enjoy, and happy Yuletart!
Summary: Fraser and Ray share a moment on the Quest.

Oh wow, gorgeous! *__* Man, I really love their hair.

Thanks! :)

Ooooooh! How sweet! :D The previous commenter is right--the hair is AMAZING--and I love the clothing folds and coat fur, too. Fraser looks so angelic. And I like how Ray looks simultaneously pleased and exasperated. You *know* Fraser is about to launch on an irritating, kiss-delaying fable. "Well you see, Ray..."

You're right, I do love me some handmade art. :D I hear you on the difficulty of scanning colored pencils, but I think I like the predigitalized version better! Are these Prismas? You're so good with them!

Thank you so much for this present! I'm really enjoying it. :)

Thank you! I'm really glad you like it. :) This was actually my first time doing a pencil crayon portrait so it was a challenge, but I had a really helpful book to walk me through what colours to use for skin/hair/etc. And I'm definitley happy with how it came out. And heh, interesting reading of the scenario! I hadn't actually thought of that, but I can see it...

Oh, and yes, they are Prismas, primarily. Might be a others in the mix because I have a bunch of coloured pencils from different places, but mostly Prismas.

Anyway, let me know if you want the original and I can arrange to send it to you. :)

I love the textures of their clothes, particularly Fraser's fur collar! It looks soft enough to run my fingers through. Their hair is also amazing.

Thanks! I'm glad you think the fur collar came out okay, because I wasn't sure how I was going to do that effectively. ^^

Very well done! I LOVE the texture on their hair and fur collars. It all looks so soft and touchable.

Thanks! Glad you think so. :)

I too, cannot get over their glorious HAIR. Fraser's especially looks amazing, you have some serious skills with those coloring pencils!

Thanks! I'm glad that everyone likes their hair; I'm not crazy about Ray's (colour is wrong...) but I do like Fraser's.: :)

Awww it really is quite romantic! I love their warm bundled-up outfits, that only makes their closeness and intimacy all the more precious.

Hee thanks! Arctic romance, gotta love it. ;)

That HAND is fantastic! Hands are so so so hard to draw. I mean, I like the treatment of the hair, and the texture of their skin, but for me its all about the hand.

The whole is rather sweet. And I like the original better than the semi-digital one. But that is all down to the delicate pencil lines.

Well done!

Thanks! I'm really glad you think the hand is good - I definitely struggled with it. And yeah, the digital one was just a quick mock-up using the blur tool and some extra painting overtop. I def prefer the original, though the scan is sadly lacking.

I like how you did the blond one's hair. The coloring is great. A very sweet pic!

COLORED PENCILL!! (and crayon?) either way I love the look of both and what a gorgeous use of th media. Your textures are amazing and I'm envious of your technique. And the characterization is so sweet.

Just coloured pencil, no crayon. :) And thank you! I basically learned most of the colouring techniques from a very useful book on coloured pencil portraits, which I referred to constantly while working on this because I haven't worked with the medium much. So I'm glad it worked!
