Giftart for Cheshire_tabby!

Title: BatJack and Captain Robin
Gift for: [livejournal.com profile] cheshire_tabby
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] chrismm
Rating: G
Fandom: "The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack" and "DC Batman"
Warnings: None. I guess. Do we warn for crack crossovers?
Artist's Notes: These are made from layers of Shrinky Dink plastic, and I'd be glad to send them to the recipient if she wants them (or draw them out on paper, if she'd rather have a drawing--I just really wanted to do the Shrinky Dinks.). I'm still mulling over display options--they're not sturdy enough to be actual toys. Also, I know Robin's costume is supposed to have green trunks, but I decided it was all disturbing enough as it was, and that no-one needed to see Captain K'nuckles shorts.
Summary: IDEK, you guys.

Mod Note: Dear [livejournal.com profile] cheshire_tabby, your Mystery Artist has offered to send you this beautiful craft! Arrangements can be made after the reveals. Happy holidays!

:D Thank you! They were very fun to make. I love Shrinky Dinks. Hee!

!!! Oh my god, this is so goddamn cute ♥ I only recently watched Flapjack so I actually know the characters now, but even if one were canon-blind this is a lovely and sweet craft regardless. Their heroic poses! Captain K'nuckles' Robin booties! And I have never heard of Shrinky Dink plastic, and am thusly impressed by how awesome the end result looks (kind of like stained glass??).

[identity profile] chrismm.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!! Shrinky Dinks are the coolest--plastic sheets you draw on, cut out, and then shrink in the oven. So fun!

OMG Shrinky dinks! The possibilities of what can be submitted for this are endless. My mind is already churning for next year!

[identity profile] chrismm.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, right? Every year that went by, I saw the number of craft-stuff submitted go up a little, and finally thought, OK, I can do this. :D I'm so glad I did.

Ahaha, oh man, what an awesome idea. They're both so cute. I love the Robin-dude's pose so much, in particular - and leaving out the shorts works very well for the cartoony design. :p

Thank you! Hee! I saw her list, and my brain just went ping! when I saw DC Batman and Flapjack. My brain--a very weird place.

The cute is overpowering! Must...not...give in! How can I possibly commit a crime with these two after me? HEE!

And I remember shrinky-dinks so fondly.

[identity profile] chrismm.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! Heh, yes, their crime-fighting powers are unmatched!

Shrinky dinks are awesome!

[identity profile] tripperfunster.livejournal.com 2009-12-20 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
That is so cute!!

[identity profile] chrismm.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! :D

You made those out of shrinky dinks?

I had no idea you could make something that awesome out of them.

[identity profile] chrismm.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! Actually, the layering was... challenging. They don't always lay quite flat when they're done, so the final day of gluing, my condo was filled with profanity. But over all--so much fun.

[identity profile] cheshire-tabby.livejournal.com 2009-12-20 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
AWWWW I crawled out of bed just half a second ago, and this is the first thing I see AND IT AWESOME!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
(the crossover is just... heartwarmingly disturbing)
♥♥♥!!!

[identity profile] chrismm.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
:D I'm so glad you like them!! They're just... odd enough that I was a little worried. But I saw the DC Batman, and the wildcard of Flapjack, and my brain just went Ding!!!

Let me know if you want them, and I'll send them along!

[identity profile] cheshire-tabby.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
your brain is amazing!

OF COURSE I WANT THEM EEEK! <333! that would be so awesome.

[identity profile] chrismm.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
:DD Email me a street address to send them to (chrismsquared at gmail dot com), and I'll get those babies on the road!

[identity profile] aybara-max.livejournal.com 2009-12-20 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
I love that you used layers of shrinky dinks to create a 3D effect, and such an awesome idea to begin with to use shrinky dinks, especially with these ridiculously cute characters ^_^ Also, anything batman + cracktacular crossovers = WIN ALWAYS ♥

[identity profile] chrismm.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! So fun, and the cracktasticness of the crossover was such a perfect fit for the medium. (And every time I think of "shrinky dinks" and "medium" in the same sentence, I burst into giggles, heh.)

[identity profile] chen-san.livejournal.com 2009-12-20 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
Oh they look so cute :D

[identity profile] chrismm.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!! :D

[identity profile] chrismm.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Heee! Thank you!

[identity profile] ani-bester.livejournal.com 2009-12-20 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG! That is great! And what you used to make it is just incredible! I love 'em, they are so freaking cute! What a great idea. I can't get over how cute the blue guy is!

[identity profile] chrismm.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! And hehe. The blue guy is Captain K'nuckles, a disreputable (and a little disturbing) pirate with a late-stage candy addiction, in the show. Flapjack is a very weird little show.

[identity profile] kittehkat.livejournal.com 2009-12-20 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
HA! AWESOME. What a cute looking crossover! And fun!

[identity profile] chrismm.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! :D They were fun to make, too!

[identity profile] longleggedgit.livejournal.com 2009-12-20 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, hilarious and adorable!

[identity profile] chrismm.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! :D

[identity profile] dramedy.livejournal.com 2009-12-20 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
GENIUS!!!! haha and totally adorable to boot. well done!

[identity profile] chrismm.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! My mind--a very weird place. Hee!

BRILLIANCE! I love love LOVE these in shrinky-dink form, because they've got that retro feel of kids' stuff from the 70s/80s, and oh, the art itself is so clean and funny and adorable! I don't even *know* this fandom and I can't stop giggling with glee just looking at them. Delight!!

[identity profile] chrismm.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw... :D Thank you! Glee is always awesome!!

The show is a very weirdly charming and slightly disturbing cartoon on the Cartoon Channel. Flapjack is an orphan, raised by Bubbie the Whale, and now living in Bubbie's mouth with Captain K'nuckles, a disreputable pirate. They take turns leading each other astray, basically. I just... Heh.

ETA: Also: You are the reason I decided I could do this, all the stuff you said in your posts about it last year, so thank you! So much fun!

awww, I'm so glad you did join and that you had fun! Doing this challenge terrifies me, but in the end I'm always delighted with what I can produce if pushed out of my comfort zone. And looking at the mega-adorable craft/art you produced, I see I'll have to up my game next year, hee!

[identity profile] leochi.livejournal.com 2009-12-23 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL - that's so cute! :)))

:D Thank you!

(Also--icon love!!)

[identity profile] glockgal.livejournal.com 2010-01-03 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously dude, I don't know how you made these and got the details right down to the Robin pixie boots and the Bat-belt but YOU DID AND IT IS SO FANTASTIC. I love that the cartoon style and characters are so perfectly created but just in the Batverse costumes and THEN IN SHRINKY DINKS. LIKE. WOT. YOU HAS SKILL.

[identity profile] chrismm.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
*blushes* Thank you! And thank you and your co-mods for doing this--this whole thing was an awesome experience, and so much gorgeous art.

Heh. I'm good at making things, just not good at drawing actual realistic people, which is what most folks in fandom want, you know?

Also: Shrinky Dinks are my medium of choice. HEEE! (Using "Shrinky Dinks" and "medium" in the same sentence cracks me up.)

[identity profile] dualbunny.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
LOLOLOL!

The cute, it's irresistible! XD They would have been adorable as drawings, but as shrinky dinks--my mind is turned to jelly by the fabulousness. \o/

[identity profile] chrismm.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
:D Thank you! They were lots of fun to make! (Also--grinning!Spike FTW!)

AHDSAJSHAGSSA I HADN'T EVEN SEEN THOSE WHUT?

They are awesome, and so weee! The little not!Batman's face OMG! (sorry, I do not know the other fandom, but I should probably chek it out, because heeeee!).

[identity profile] chrismm.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
:DDDD Thank you! So much fun to make. Despite the vagaries of using a medium that's not really intended to be a medium, per se. Heh.

And you totally should. It's a very... weird little show, and possibly a little disturbing, yet so charming. It's like if your favorite fandom crack!fic writer got a job creating a kid's cartoon.

The fansite is WAY better than the real site, of course. http://www.flapjackfan.com/
