Happy Yuletart, blood!

Title: Paleolithic Sunset
Gift for:[livejournal.com profile] blood
Artist:
Rating:: G
Fandom: Earth's Children by Jean M. Auel
Characters: Ayla, Whinny
Warnings: none
Artist notes: When I saw this in your wildcard requests, I had to jump at the chance to draw something in this universe; I loved these books so much when I was a kid that I even made myself a tiny little sling like Ayla's (though I was total crap at using it; I think my life expectancy in the Paleolithic would've been measured in hours). You'd said in your signup that you like crossovers and I swear to goodness I actually did start out planning this image to be a crossover, but when it came right down to it, the elements from the secondary fandom looked so out of place and just downright weird that I went with a straight-up Earth's Children painting instead. I hope you like it!
Summary: Ayla surveys her world.

ext_161: girl surrounded by birds in flight. (Default)

Your artist's notes are wonderful. *g* Oh, I love the watercolor here -- particularly the horse and the cloud, volcanic or sunset. This really captures the big-open-spaces-where-everything-is-baffling feeling I used to love about Valley of Horses.

I love the blendings and gradation in the colors!

This is great. I like how panoramic it is, with the huge empty landscape that dwarves the Ayla and Whinny.

This is gorgeous!

I don't know this fandom, but oh, absolutely gorgeous. I love the colors, I love how small she is compared to the grandeur of the landscape, the wind in her hair; I feel like I'm standing there with her, blown away by what I'm seeing. I also love the type of horse you decided to draw :-)

This is beautiful, I love the way you did the color washes, the atmosphere is so peaceful.

Ohh, this is so tranquil and wonderful, with a beautiful sense of scale. Those watercolor washes look amazing.

Omg this is wonderful. So, so beautiful! :)

Oh my god, this is absolutely gorgeous. The sunset just behind the mountains, and the shadows in the nooks and crannies, and how huge everything feels stretching out before them. I'm probably always going to picture Whinny exactly like this now. (When I was younger I wore an amulet like Ayla's everywhere for a year, and put rocks and wilting weeds inside.) Thank you so much! It was so unexpected to receive a gift for this fandom, and it's perfect, and I love it. You're amazing ♥♥

That's beautiful! I like how Whinny is the right kind of horse, and I love the sky and the emptiness of it all.

Gorgeous colours and composition! I love how small the figures are in comparison to the grandeur of the landscape - it feels just right :)

The colors!! And the splotchy wash!!! And the Whinny's expression! And both of them! And everything! *guh*

Beautiful. It's got so much feeling to it. (Also, least offensive sig ever. I didn't see it until the fifth time looking at the pic.)

Gorgeous!

This is so pretty. I love the colors, especially on the mountains. I like how few lines you used and how you're able to give a very definite texture to the land with just the watercolors. Great pic!

[identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow, this one is my favorite so far! The watercolor is perfect -- it looks almost like a cave painting! It's so surprising to see something from this line of books (surprising and wonderful!). :D

Oh, this is lovely! I love the atmosphere so -- the tiny detailed Ayla and Whinny (all shaggy and steppe-pony-solid as she ought to be) and then the vast sweeping landscape. It captures all the best bits of the feel of those books.
