Art for Brille!

Title:Just the Thing
Gift for: [livejournal.com profile] brille
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] amkave
Rating: G
Fandom: Bandom - MCR
Warnings: None
Artist's Notes:brille requested so many interesting things it was difficult to choose. I went with MCR just because I could work from lots of source material. The original is about 28x23inches and it is acrylic on treated fabric (after the artist reveal, if you want the original painting, let me know, I'll mail it to you). Please note - because of the size of the original I don't have the capability of scanning an image that big, and so had to settle for a photograph. Which is less than ideal, and for that I am sorry.
Summary: You can't have part without the whole.

Oh gosh, this is gorgeous. *_* I really like Frank & Gerard's expressions, and Bob has this amazing gradient thing going on with his hair & beard. ;) The overall composition is just lovely, too, with the band at the bottom - I really like sketchy Mikeyway, in particular. Lovely work!

The sketchy Mikeyway was one of my favorite parts! Especially with his tee-shirt in Japanese. Thank you so much!

I don't know these guys, but I like the composition.

Thank you!

This is really cool! I like the composition a lot, and the use of black. :)

[identity profile] amkave.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you - black was kinda an obvious choice, but I agree it was very effective!

Wow, did you do the sketch in acrylic with a pen? It's so fun and light, perfect complement to the heavy, rich, gorgeous colors above it. The red-haired guy in particular is amazing. The highlights in his hair and the brightness is beautiful.

[identity profile] amkave.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much - it was a combination of tools, actually. And yes, it is acrylic.

OH. MY. GOODNESS!! I am totally over the moon, you have no idea! This is the first time I've ever gotten art as a gift and let me tell you, you are setting the bar so high!!

The piece itself is stunning, composition and colours and I am so excited that it is done in actualfax concrete paint and canvas, wow! I loooove the style that you've drawn the boys in: Frank and Gerard are smirking little adorable smirks and then Bob is just glowing in the centre! And I think it's super neat that the figures at the bottom are sketchier as thought they're in motion, playing their little hearts out, awww.

so yes thank you thank you THANK YOU for this beautiful artwork: I can't WAIT to find out who you are so I can thank you even more profusely!! Hearts!

[identity profile] amkave.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! I am so glad you like it! And yes, Bob is my favorite - that isn't too obvious is it?

I love the individuality of each band members face, united in black and the band rocking out. lovely.

Thank you - it was a lot of fun to do!

This is all made of awesome, but I really love Bob, there in the middle, with his awesome golden soft beard, and bright blue eyes, and that toothpick, hee!

I really like the chalk outline-style effect of the bottom half.

[identity profile] amkave.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Bob is my favorite. Thank you so much - I had lots of fun with this!

OH WOW! I was thinking okay you know, three portraits, very nice very good, and then I scrolled down and there was the concert scene, and it just made the picture that much better. It works so so well and I love the vibrant white lines against the black. there's so much energy in them and it contrasts so well against the the calmer look of the figures.

Thanks so much!

I like the combination of the portraits with the crowd scene, and I like the expression of, um, the dude on the left. Very cute.

[identity profile] amkave.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much! And yeah, I like "the dude on the left" too - LOL!

[identity profile] glockgal.livejournal.com 2010-01-03 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
This is so lovely and especially because this really goes to show just how much is added to the interest of a painting when it's done on canvas - the light off the camera from the canvas only adds, I think, to the band-star epicness of this. I love how the boys look so happy with each other, and I particularly love how you did white-on-black for the concert scene. That does not look easy to do, and you did it wonderfully!

[identity profile] amkave.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! The white on black was actually easier than I thought it would be - it is not something I've done in precisely this way before, but when I was in school I used to love to use scratchboard - Black scratchboard. I just applied some of the same principles here - although I think I'd like to try to get a little more detail next time.

[identity profile] dualbunny.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Awww, their expressions are so endearing and adorable. L} And love the coloring--especially his beard. I also think the idea to reverse the outline color for the bottom half was really neat!

[identity profile] amkave.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! The reverse outline sort of was an easy decision - I was kind of surprised how well it worked out.
