Art for Devidarkwolf!

Title: On Guard
Gift for: [livejournal.com profile] devidarkwolf
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] ria_oaks
Rating: G
Fandom: Star Trek XI
Artist's Notes: You said you wanted an action/fighting scene with Kirk and Spock, and I hope this works for you! They're presumably about to fight... something. Or they're just striking heroic action poses, I'm not sure which. :) Enjoy!
Summary Kirk and Spock poised for battle

Oh, nifty! I love the posing - the different-levels thing works wonderfully for action sequences. I love Spock's firm expression, too. ♥ Well done!

Thanks! I originally had them both standing, then realized it'd be more interesting to have Kirk kneeling... I like how it turned out, esp Kirk.

I love it! I know it's from Star Trek XI, but it looks very old school, too, which I like. Great pose; I can see it being a still from an actual episode of TOS. :)

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Cool, thanks! I've never even seen TOS beyond the occasional clip or bit on TV, so I'm pleased to hear that... I figured it kinda represents their characters in general, since I know they don't look exactly like Chris Pine and Zach Quinto. So it could be either XI or TOS. :)

Heh! I saw the phasers and was impressed -- the new style is so tricky to nail, with all their shiny bits. Fun posing, glad Spock's got Kirk covered. ;)

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Glad to hear that - I did the phasers pretty quickly at the end when I was down to the wire (like, less than 2 hours until the deadline... ^^;) so I was concerned that they were too slap-dash. I actually used a picture of what I think are the tie-in phaser toys released with the movie, since that was the clearest picture I could find of the XI phasers on Google Images. ;)

Kirk looks really cute in this! :)))

Lol thanks! I like how he turned out, too...

What a great pose for them! Also the attention to detail -- hee, the new!Trek phasers!

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I pretty much just Google Image searched for 'Star Trek XI phasers' or something and it came up with pictures of the tie-in toys, so I used those... they were the clearest images of the phasers. ;)

I love how it feels like a crossover between TOS and Reboot. It just has a 60's feel to it, a little bit stylized--I love that. I really love the draping on Kirk's shirt.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I wasn't even really going for that since I'm barely familiar with TOS, but I'm rather flattered that several people have said the same. :) Though I did decide at one point, since I know the likenesses aren't perfectly Chris or Zach, that this kinda just represents their characters in general and could thus be either TOS or Reboot. If that makes sense. ;) And thanks, I was also quite happy with how Kirk in particular turned out, and I'm pleased with the colouring and shading on his shirt and pants...

BAH!!!!! LOVE THIS!
Love the pose the action, the rendering, oh wow, this is great.

Wonderful job ^__^
Kirk especially is nice!

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! Really glad you liked it! I'm also quite pleased with Kirk (less so with Spock on several levels... but I think Kirk turned out well).

[identity profile] glockgal.livejournal.com 2010-01-03 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Heeee so awesome! I love action poses which make the characters look oh so competent and badass. Love that Kirk is kneeling (always one for the dramatics) whereas Spock is calmly assessing and calculating. Great detailing on the 'reboot' phasers as well!

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I decided partway through the sketch phase that Kirk kneeling would be more interesting and dramatic than having him standing, which he was originally. And it does rather work for the characters, too - Kirk's kneeling like he's about to spring into action and kick some ass, and Spock's covering him and calmly preparing to meet the enemy. Heh. (and lol, thanks for the praise on the phasers - as I mentioned to a few people above, I actually used a picture of the tie-in toy to draw them, because that was the most detailed picture that turned up on Google Images...)

[identity profile] dualbunny.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
I can't get over how even though his mouth is almost straight, the tilt of Kirk's head still imply his smirk. :D And everything about Spock is on task. XD Lovely take on the two of them.

[identity profile] ria-oaks.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I'm glad you like it and that you think I got their characters down well. :)
