Art for Nothingtoregret!

Title: Calm before the Storm
Gift for: [livejournal.com profile] nothingtoregret
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] hanachan01
Rating: PG-13 for non-sexual nudity
Fandom: Macbeth
Warnings: non-sexual nudity
Artist's Notes: I was pretty excited when my requester said she/he wanted Shakespeare fanart. I decided to go with Macbeth, since it's always been my favorite though seeing as I've been drawing the Tenth Doctor on all my notes recently, it's a wonder I didn't go with Hamlet xD The idea behind this picture is the scene in which Lady Macbeth is concincing Macbeth to kill the king. Macbeth's nudity is supposed to symbolize his vulnerability when it comes to his wife's plans and also that I was really pleased with how his body turned out so I didn't want to cover it in clothes. Lady Macbeth's design is based off of a painting I found while doing research of her being portrayed by the actress Ellen Terry. I thought it was a striking image, teh pale skin against red hair and a deep green dress, so I did a similar design, but in my own anime-ish style.

The coloring was done by painting watercolor splotches, and then scanning them into my computer. From there, I collaged the splotches in Photoshop to create a pattern. I think this helped to get the natural yet even look I was going for.
Summary: Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, done in a mix of traditional and CGI.

I really love this, and also that his nudity works as such a contrast to hers, later.

And her hand curled around him is terrifying and brilliant. brrr

That coloring method? Is an AWESOME idea. And I liked how it worked a lot.

AGREED ABOUT THE HAND.

Eeeeeh OMG this is so awesome! Macbeth is one of my absolute favourite plays (the other being Hamlet, ironically enough)! I really love her braid, and both their expressions are so awesome! Also thirding the hand sentiment!

I am so in love with her hair, both the shape and the coloring--you rendered it beautifully.

Oh wow, I love the intense look in Lady Macbeth's eyes and the way her hand is curling over Macbeth's hip, possessive like. Nicely done!

I would not want to meet that Lady Macbeth in a dark alley. Well done.

Dude, cool process!

Wonderfully manipulative look you got on Lady Macbeth there. I love her possessive claw.

The contrast here looks amazing; I love how flipped it is from what we usually see in a lot of media (where women are usually the nude and vulnerable ones). The coloring is also gorgeous, really glowy and smooth. That technique would never have occurred to me; it works great!

Creeeepy. And *lush*. Love the way your technique worked out, and I think it's a wonderful take on the play. :D

What an interesting interpretation of Macbeth's state of mind!

Lovely colouring, too! :)))

Your painting method sounds really interesting, and it worked very nicely. I... I have to say I've never read Macbeth, but the imagery is very stunning.

Awesome. So cool to see Shakespeare art on here :)

Oooh, that coloring looks great-- and reading the explanation of how you did it was extra awesome, because I was totally wondering how you got the skin to look so fantastic :D

Oh man, I love Lady Macbeth's CRAZY EYES. The coloring technique you used is really cool, not to mention the colors themselves. Her braids are really kickass as well, and I really like how vulnerable you've made Macbeth. Lady M is the one in charge here, and I think both of them know it. It's awesome.

I love the choices you made with the nudity in this -- it reminds me of that iconic John-and-Yoko photo in that the man's vulnerability is emphasized through his nakedness (not that Yoko is crazy, heh, I love Yoko). His obvious weariness battling with hyper-alert discomfort is such an incredible contrast with her forceful madness, covered from head to toe with overwhelming hair and heavy gown. It's a fairly simple piece of art, but it's even more effective for that -- the curl of her fingers against his exposed flesh, brrrrr!

Amazing, amazing stuff.

Very nice concept. I love how you pulled it off. And the way you used the coloring technique of highly creative and worked very well.

Creepy, evocative and so very perfect for MacBeth and his Lady! OMG it's hard for me to look at her face for too long, I get shivers, I do. Wow.
