I had a lot of trouble with the lighting on the skin, esp Castiel. I even tried sampling colors for him from a screencap, but it made him all weird and green. Glad it turned out well. :)

From the summary, I expected something a little more...I dunno, ferocious. So the quiet solemness and grace of the actual picture just unexpectedly took my breath away. You can just feel the weight of everything that's happened on Dean's shoulders. Beautifully done.

So lovely! I love the whole composition of the piece, really well-suited for something that's showing up on computer screens. You start off with these cool shades of blue and grey, with Dean's eyes fixed downwards, and then things gradually warm and you see this speck of fire falling through space. And there's this great use of all these lines to draw you through the image.

HOOOOLYYYY SHIIIIIT this is gorgeous :O I can't- I just- AUHSDJFJ SJKDFN I keep darting from the comment box to the image back down to write something nearing coherency and then back up to the image again. This is really really beautifully done! I love the setup of your light sources and the way you've approached the atmospheric conditions. The stark moonlighting and subtly murky atmo, with just a hint of warm tones from the gas can and flare from the match, suit the context of the image incredibly well. It's grim and lovely and there's such a mournful, duty-bound, heavy weight about Dean, his posture and expression, with Castiel looking over his shoulder that just makes this an incredible piece of art. I LOVE it!! I couldn't have asked for a better Yuletart--thank you Secret Santa!! <3

:D!!! You are welcome! I'm really glad you like it! Castiel was so new when we were doing sign-ups that I was afraid you might end up not liking him. Since my fav part of the show lately has been Castiel standing really close to Dean and looking at him I decided to go with that (my first idea was Castiel watching Dean sleep, but then I thought 'maybe that does not appeal to anyone who isn't me' lol). And you give me too much credit for light sources, it's just fake dramatic lighting. :)

LOL first rule (or maybe it's the 34th..) of the internet: it's never just you. I'd have been equally as happy with Castiel watching Dean sleep (*cracks up* I swear, the amount of time that guy spends sleeping with Castiel watching, I think Sam just drugs him so he can sneak out, and Castiel takes advantage. Angelically.)

Oh, WOW. The likenesses are amazing, but it's the mood and atmosphere you've created that pulls it all together; the misty, spooky surroundings, the mottled stodge of solid earth, the sense of cavernousness with the hole, the bright point of the match. And their expressions! I'm glad there's a bigger version, because I love the pained, almost deflated determination on Dean's face and Castiel's inscrutable John Constantine-ish observation -- not of the process or the grave, but of Dean himself. There's a whole lot going on here and the beauty part is that it's such a relatively simple picture! I love it! Gorgeous work!

Oh man, this is so intense, I love how you coloured it to look like nighttime, and the fall of the lit match is captured so well and so beautifully, it really looks like a photograph in terms of lighting and texture. I'm inlove with the way you coloured Dean's jeans, they are so jeanslike and yet still stylised. What a skillfully done composition! Letterboxing the sides was a really great way of pulling the focus in on the characters and event. Marvelous stuff!

This is simply wonderful! I love art with great lighting, and the darkness of the night with the glow from the flame is brilliant. You've captured Dean and Castiel really well, I especially love Castiel's intense eyes, and the frame of Dean's shoulders...which look kinda vulnerable. Brilliant!
