Giftart for Beccastareyes!

Title: At Last
Gift for: [livejournal.com profile] beccastareyes
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] gardendoor
Rating: G
Fandom: Miles Vorkosigan
Characters: Miles/Ekaterin
Warnings: None
Artist notes: Brushpen with Photoshop color.
Summary: Miles and Ekaterin, happy in their lives and with each other. I wanted to draw Miles with his Auditor chain and the grays he still wears to remind him of his Dendarii days, and Ekaterin in the blue that Miles thought would match her eyes when he first met her on Komarr, with her hair less tightly bound to signify how much less confined she is in her new life.

My pleasure! It was so much fun to try and draw Miles.

Lovely expressions on their faces. They do, indeed, look happy together. (and kudos for Miles' proportions, That must have been tricky and yet it looks great)

Thank you so much! Yeah, it was a bitch and a half to get the proportions and the hunched back right while still showing how appealing and charismatic he can be. By the way, is that a Foreigner icon? If so, I adore the interplay between Bren and Jago!

I think it was clever the way you used the curve of their bodies, to fit Mile's hunched back gracefully into the composition.

Yes, Foreigner (Eeee! You recognised it) I used my lone SF book icon, since I didn't have a Vorkosigan one, and well, Bren is vertically challenged compared with the atevi and they (he and Miles) are both clever, driven, work-a-holics. *g*
I really enjoy Bren's interactions with his atevi associates -particularly Jago & Banichi- and I adore Bren and Illisidi's conversations, too.

*happy sigh* I adore Illisidi with her favorite 'handsome young man.' Every time there's a scene with her, I sit up a little straighter, waiting to see if a conversational bomb is going to go off...

It's funny, I love both series, but for me, the characters often seem like complete opposites: Miles is a force of nature, trying to win everyone over by force of whirlwind personality, while Bren is constantly trying to mute himself down, not cause a splash. But now that you mention it, they are both outsiders who will never fully belong in their Restoration/futuristic societies, often serving as axis points for moments of powerful change.

Illisidi and conversational bombs. Yes, I have the same reaction of hoping for these!

I was stretching the point of their similarities a bit to justify using the icon *g* though I'm definitely a fan of brilliant articulate heroes with excellent instincts (and the combination of SF and historical style societies). Miles is likely to create a huge dizzying spectacle while solving his problems, often gets himself into messes in the first place, and it's simply fun to watch him plot and scheme. He is definitely a force of nature.

Bren doesn't need to create his own problems or dizzying spectacles - he has atevi and human politics for that *g*. I like seeing the contrast between his internal struggles & uncertainties versus his outward calm and sure instinct, and the way he just keeps navigating his way through everything.

I really like the clean lines and full colours used in this; the way their posture sways into the other person, and the auburn hair, and the blues in her dress against the greys of his clothing. It's all very soft and appealing. Great stuff!

Oh, thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked it.

Nawww they seem so sweet and so dedicated to each other! I love these homey, happy colours of bright blue and pink that's so prevalent in this piece. It's wonderful!

Thank you! I'm glad the pink worked; I tried pale green and different shades of blue and they were not. having. it. :) Mwah!
