Giftart for Ria_oaks!

Title: Heart of Steel
Gift for: [livejournal.com profile] ria_oaks
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] vejiicakes
Rating:: G
Fandom: Iron Man
Characters: Tony Stark
Artist notes: I've meant to indulge in some Tony Stark fanart for a long time, so I was glad for the opportunity to do so! This isn't really a medium I take to using on fanart (chalk and.. some kind of weird pencil on post-consumer waste paper) so this giftart covers all sorts of firsts for me. Anyway, I saw you liked portraits on your devArt, so I hope this pleases. And of course, happy holidays!

That is beautiful!

Wow, this is very nicely done! The shadows and the glow from the arc reactor in his chest really make it gorgeous!

Oh wow, this is just amazing! I love his eyes and the planes of his face. The shadows/lighting are beautiful, as is his hair! :D

I've been really bad about commenting this year, but I have to say something about this one. As a mod, I have the pleasure of getting to look at all the art before it gets posted, and we've gotten some really FANTASTIC art this year in all different canons and media, but this is my absolute favorite this year, hands down. I'm a fan of Iron Man and of sketchy art, of portraits and of dramatic lighting and dynamic use of shadows and shading. I just adore this. It's absolutely gorgeous.

I love sepia-toned paper, and this is beautifully executed.

[identity profile] dramedy.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Brilliant. Just, absolutely brilliant. I love it!

[identity profile] bluelittlepig.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
This is really fantastic. The light and shadows are done really well.

Oh wow, that's gorgeous!! Thank you!! :) What am awesome Christmas gift... and after a pretty shitty Christmas Eve day, I needed it. I love the shading and especially the highlights - the chalk on the brown paper worked really well. And I like how you based it on RDJ without adhering completely to his likeness - it looks like Tony, and it works really well this way I think. Love his hair, and his eyes, and his cheekbones my god. ;) So pretty... *stares*

[identity profile] pippins-nose.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
the lighting is gorgeous. you've really done justice to his glowy power-center thingamaging :D

[identity profile] loonylupinlover.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Whoa, gorgeous use of charcoal and tinted paper! I don't know anything about Ironman, but this is a beautifully powerful piece and you use the white pencil for highlights so well. I love the hatching too. Lovely!

[identity profile] unithien-rerith.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
I...guh! There is nothing I can say that hasn't already been said, probably, so....GAH! Fantastic!
ratcreature: RatCreature is enthusiastic: Yay! (yay!)

This looks great.

[identity profile] 22by7.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
you are horrifyingly good at shading. and pencil/charcoal work on brown paper with white highlights is something i may have a little bit of a kink for, so. nnnggh. also loving how there's a sort of gear-halo behind him.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2008-12-25 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, OH! I have a strong suspicion about whose art this is; it's a little different from your usual style but it's beautiful! Even if I'm wrong, it's beautiful and I love it! The eyes, the brows, and the beauty of the face!

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't guess correctly, but I'm still thrilled because now I found an amazing new artist!

wooooooooooooow.... O__________O

Just absolutely gorgeous. My gosh the textures. The EYES the shading AROUND THE EYES. the glow of the thing a majig. Just lovely. I love the hollows of his cheeks and the slight lift of his nose and the collarbones and hell. I love everything about it. Just gorgeous. Awesome job!

[identity profile] dun.livejournal.com 2008-12-26 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
I really like how you've done the shading and in particular how he's lit from below by the arc reactor. Lovely portrait! :)

[identity profile] kaiserkuchen.livejournal.com 2008-12-26 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
The spectacular shading in this piece makes my heart all aflutter. Simply stunning work ♥

Wow, this is gorgeous! Wonderful technique and I love the medium. Great use of black and white charcoal.

[identity profile] bossymarmalade.livejournal.com 2008-12-26 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
What an excellent portrait! The medium makes it all soft and shadowy, and the way that you've lit it suits the whole mood perfectly. I especially like how there's just the slightest hint of colour in his eyes. Fabulous work!

Stunning portrait! I love the chalk highlights and the touch of blue on the arc reactor.

[identity profile] gardendoor.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. I love the delicate bones of his face, and your choice to light him with the glow from the power source. Nicely done!

[identity profile] rasetsunyo.livejournal.com 2008-12-28 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
This is lovely! I really like his pensive expression and the cool lighting effect.

[identity profile] zarahemla.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, wow, wow, wow.

[identity profile] pandarus.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 10:24 am (UTC)(link)
Really, really lovely. Beautifully rendered and very evocative - love the use of light and the cogs in the background. Brava!

[identity profile] bookshop.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 03:21 am (UTC)(link)

oh my god, you already know how phenomenal this is, I FEEL SHEEPISH EVEN TELLING YOU SO. Wow. What I love most: that the only use of non-sepia color, apart from the barest touches in the highlights of his hair, is the parallel aqua of his eyes and his reactor. Stunning.

[identity profile] glockgal.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
khfkJDHFKLDJSH this is so gorgeous, I just. The cross-hatching details you got with this media is just PHENOMENAL. I love to textured it is, it's like a feast for the eyes to see all of these different line weights and the contrast between the black, the white and the blues against the dark paper.

He looks absolutely breathtaking; I dare anyone to not fall in love with him right at this moment. I love the underlighting his chest thingie makes against his face, especially his nose and under-eyes. Everything about this is magical! You are FANTASTIC!! *MWAH*

[identity profile] grendelity.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, lovely. That's beautiful; I love how the color of the paper acts as a shadow. I just can't stop looking at it.

[identity profile] sheepfairy.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, this is lovely! I like this style of drawing, and I think the touch of blue around the arc reactor was perfect. And I love his face, and the gears as a background.

[identity profile] dualbunny.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
*Love* it. Fantastic lighting, and your take on him is beautiful. :D

[identity profile] elynross.livejournal.com 2009-01-11 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
This is really well done -- I love the texturing on it, and the use of light.
