Artist notes: This assignment was great for me, as it gave me an excuse to go back and watch a lot of Buffy (which I haven't done in a couple of years)! I definitely ended up influenced by the B-Movie vibe from certain early episodes, and had this crazy mental image of the Scooby Gang doing their Christmas shopping, only to be interrupted as they discover that the Mall Santa and his pack of elves have all been turned into vampires.

This may also have been influenced by the fact that Mall Santas weird me out.

Wow, this is seriously cool. I love the layout - it looks like it could be the cover for one of the BtVS comics. Xander's expression [and his orange mittens!] is priceless. And I feel like you've done an excellent job capturing Buffy's determined spirit.

The Scoobies are so adorable (poor Xander and his mittens!) and the vampire elves and Santa are just fabulous :-D Buffy herself is just right on down to the "I'm gonna kick their asses" smirk. I love the textures, like watercolors, only streamlined -- its tangible yet very graphic. I love all the ways you separated the foreground from the elfzombies; that chunky aura, the yellowy flatness of the background, and the way the top half and bottom half meet like kissing triangles right in the middle. And their personalities! They come through splendidly, the three heroes like archetypes of old. Never watched Buffy, but this is great.

Thank you for that very thoughtful comment! I did my best to use the textures to my advantage without going overboard with them; I really wanted the vampire/elf/zombies to have a grungy B-movie poster without having the whole image plunge into ridiculousness. And I'm glad you could appreciate the sense of personality from the characters – that means a lot considering you're not familiar with them, but you still got that connection. I'm very glad you liked the picture, thanks again!
