Summary: Christmas AU images of Smaug and Bilbo blowing smoke rings together.
Notes: I hope the peaceful re-interpretation is not too far from what was wanted. I'd originally started with a much more literal interpretation of the scene, but then - probably after too much Christmas music and Egg Nog (yes I start early)- this idea came to me. I liked it so much better I ended up using it. There was something very much in the Holiday spirit about the two of them getting along, even though it could never happen in the real Middle Earth because well... Smaug is Smaug.

It's so beautiful! It makes me feel all warm inside, just the happiness of it--seriously. Smaug is gorgeous in all his gem encrusted glory, and Bilbo is adorable and cheerful and fond. And smoke rings and furry feet! I love it so much. Thank you!

Is it greedy to ask for a higher res version so I can print it and put it up? I think this needs to go in my hallway--there's a perfect spot for it. <3

Thank you so so muc! The belly part was fun. It tried to give it the idea of encrusted gems, which was a neat challenge.

Heee it was too cute not to pass up. It's was actually inspired by a piece by George Barr called cook out in which a dragon is cooking hot dogs for middle earth inspired characters.

This is gorgeous! I really love the composition and the colours. The watercolours are very beautiful, especially the orange/red on Smaug's outer hide and the background. And Bilbo's little furry feet. :)
