2010 Master List and Notes
Yuletart is officially over! It's been a bit of a bumpy year, but we hope that the experience has been rewarding for all of our artists. The mods offer their sincere apologies for any confusion that may have happened this year—Our main organizer for previous years and total goddess,
glockgal, was unable to give much time to Yuletart this year, and our first goal was to have the fest happen at all (It almost didn't!). You know how it is when you sit down at someone else's computer and it feels strange? Well, we were kind of figuring things out as we went along, and we appreciate everyone's patience as we worked to make Yuletart happen.
In the coming year, the mods are going to sit down and evaluate the fest's entire process from top to bottom to try and figure out ways to make things more smooth for everyone next year. Two important changes we know for sure we'll be making will be:
We also plan to post more reminders so that the fest doesn't slip your minds. Just as we do every year, we invite you to offer ideas for how you feel the fest can be improved. We can't promise that we'll use every idea offered, but we will definitely take them all under consideration. Please keep in mind, however, that running a fest is hard work and none of us get paid for it! We'd especially like ideas on how to revamp/better the fandom nomination process, as it remains somewhat unwieldy.
Thanks very much to everyone who participated, especially to those of you who submitted art on time and/or were pinch hitters. Fellow mod
thoracopagus was a pinch hit star, stepping up to do 3! We only had a handful of pinch hits to make, though, so we count that as a big win. Have a wonderful 2011, and we will see you next fall!

In the coming year, the mods are going to sit down and evaluate the fest's entire process from top to bottom to try and figure out ways to make things more smooth for everyone next year. Two important changes we know for sure we'll be making will be:
- Eliminating the separate "what you want to get" and "what you can give" sections on the sign-up form. Instead, there will be one section for "art you are willing to give and/or receive" and another for any additional fandoms you are willing to give but don't want to get. We had to occasionally make matches this year using the "what you want to get" section due to a lack of more obscure fandoms, and the resulting confusion over that was our biggest issue this year.
- Additionally, part of next year's confirmation process will be you listing at least 5 artists from the sign-up post you'd like to give art to. Making matches is a tricky process, and we hope that this combined with the above will both make it easier on the mods and better ensure that you guys are getting the assignments you really want.
We also plan to post more reminders so that the fest doesn't slip your minds. Just as we do every year, we invite you to offer ideas for how you feel the fest can be improved. 1) THANK YOU MODS ♥ ♥ ♥ The fest was wonderful this year, you all did a great job! I look forward to the fest all year and it was great fun, I appreciate the hard work y'all do to make it fun for everyone :)
2) The amazing
3) Curious about the decision to list artists you would specifically like to give gifts to. Seems to defeat the spirit of a mystery gift exchange, though I can see how it would be useful to make matches if all other methods fail. I think the Dear Yuletart letters are a better idea as a requirement so that people have a better idea what to create for strangers.

Oh, and also, THANK YOU for the heads up, I fixed Cathy's post. :)
It's occurred to me that maybe I should better clarify: The list of artists you'd like to give art to is something you'll provide in your confirmation email. It's not a list of friends or what have you; after sign ups close, we're asking everyone look over the application post, make a list of people who list fandoms/prompts that excite them, and then send that along to us. The idea is that you might have a list 5 people long or 50, but this helps ensure everyone gets to create art that they're excited about.
I hope that made sense. XD

From the way you put it in the post I was iffy on the concept, but this sounds like a great idea.

I looooooove the idea of the 'five+ recipient wishlist'! Given how Yuletart is very much a blend from super-popular to really obscure fandoms, having a system like that during the confirmation process would be absolutely ideal for everyone. CLEARLY YOU GUYS AREN'T JUST PRETTY FACES. *bum pat*
And thank you to all the participants who made this Yuletart fun and unique and an excellent pick-me-up during my hermitage! What an inspiration it was this year to be surprised and delighted with each new entry. And I got to take home some technical artistic technique notes as well. WIN.

The explanation for the artist's artist list (?) idea sounds great. I know I tend to forget fandoms to list during sign-ups, and a lot of times looking at other artist's wild-cards will remind me of them.
Unless my math is wrong, next year will be the fifth year of Yuletart! I am even more excited. ♥

I was a little confused by what you meant by pick 5 artists (because I was like wait my friends? I don't know a lot of people and naming my 5 friends seemss..odd) but bzzinglikeneon's explanation in the thread cleared all that up and I think it's a great idea and can see where it would make things easier :)
Thank you all so much!

Thank you for all your hard work!

I was curious about the "listing artists" part. Then I saw up there how you clarified it for someone else and I really love the idea. =)
My name also wasn't yet added on the top of my post. Thank you!

I really liked the timeline of this year's fest (I don't know if it was any different from previous years, but for whatever reason, the pacing just felt perfect this year). And just the variety of fandoms, there was seriously a little bit of everything this year, and lots of stuff I'd never heard of which is awesome and intriguing.
You mods are awesome for organizing all this, and I'm so glad you guys seem all pumped and ready to do it again this year. I can't wait! :)
