Happy Yuletart, kazaizor!

Title: Flight
Gift for: [livejournal.com profile] kazaizor
Artist:
Rating:: G
Fandom: DC Comics
Characters: Black Canary
Artist notes: No matter how many weird ways DC comics tries to mess her up, Black Canary's still one of my favorite characters ever. I had a hard time picking between two ideas for this drawing--so I didn't.
Summary: A Black Canary diptych.

I really like her hair in the second piece, like she's underwater, or falling slowly. It looks dreamy and serene, but her face is sad, so it makes me wonder what she's thinking.

I like how one pic is all business/action and the other is more personal, it's a good contrast. Nice work!

My face. Oh my word, my face right now is just one huge smile. AaaaahhhhH! She's gorgeous! And moving! And totally kicking ass! And she's beautiful! And floaty! Ohmygosh!

My favourite part? Well, the part where you got her costume in the first one without making her look like dominatrix Barbie, just phenomenal! And then the second one is just beautiful and so simple and it makes me smile so much!

Thank you so much, this is too amazing! <3

Oh, awesome! :D I like Black Canary and I really like this piece, especially the second image with the lovely flowing hair and the delicate shading on her face. :D

Dinah!

I like that you've got the two sides of her, both totally kick-ass and calm and serene.

Awesome. I love Black Canary. I really like how you drew her costume. :D

I love each of these on their own, but together they both make the other pop so much! Beautiful! :D

I like the second one best, with her hair floating in such a pretty way, and her thoughful expression, but the first has a nice sense of action (Go kickass Dinah!)

I love the duality of this piece: Dinah's strength and confidence on the left, and her vulnerability and humanity on the right. Very nice! You have some really excellent shading going on in the first piece (very dramatic and impressive), and I love the ethereal quality to the other, as well as her facial structure (the cheekbones!). Great work.

Eeeee I loooove seeing Dinah in action, leaping and kicking baddies in the face. It's neat how you contrast her action and confidence with a closer, more vulnerable portrait of her. Great contrast!

I like these a lot, especially the emotion in the second one. <3 (Like everyone else is saying, the contrast is excellent!)

Gorgeous. And with about ten times more characterization than you sometimes get in the comics. <3

Thank you! I had way too much fun drawing her hair. I have a larger image of the second piece here, if you're interested: http://scribbleomania.livejournal.com/50995.html

[identity profile] scribbleomania.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I was afraid the contrast would be a bit much, but I'm glad they work well together. :D

Yay! I'm so, so glad you like it! I almost never get a chance to draw Black Canary, but I absolutely love to. She's such a kickass character. I do love her costume, too, though LOL yes dominatrix Barbie is frequently how it comes out. I'm glad I managed to draw it a bit more classy than that.

I posted a few larger images here at my journal, if you're interested in seeing/having them: http://scribbleomania.livejournal.com/50995.html

[identity profile] scribbleomania.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I'm usually not so great with delicate or subtle in my art, so I'm really glad you like the second image.

[identity profile] scribbleomania.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I'm glad that I captured those two sides of her personality. Dinah's such a fun character, so much complexity to explore.

[identity profile] scribbleomania.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I love Black Canary, too (and I love your icon--I was considering adding Babs in the first image).

[identity profile] scribbleomania.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much! I was afraid that the two images would clash, I'm glad that they work well together.

[identity profile] scribbleomania.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I probably had the most fun with the more peaceful one (though Dinah does love to kick ass).

[identity profile] scribbleomania.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much! It was fun to explore those two sides of her personality-- sort of Dinah the person versus Black Canary the superhero.

[identity profile] scribbleomania.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! Dinah is so awesome and kickass that I just had to draw her in action! I'm really glad you like the contrast, I was worried that the pictures might be too different. It was fun to juxtapose those two sides of Dinah.

[identity profile] scribbleomania.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! The second one was so much fun to draw. (Now I'm glad I was indecisive about which one I wanted to do!)

[identity profile] scribbleomania.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! That's a huge compliment. Dinah's really a terrific character to work with. Superhero ladies have personality depth and complexity, are you listening comic book writers??

[identity profile] ani-bester.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
She looks so strong in both pieces, but I love the hair in the second. you cna't go wrong with an upward sweep like that.
Nice work!

[identity profile] scribbleomania.livejournal.com 2011-01-09 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I love drawing dramatic hair, but who doesn't? :p
