lovely! your style fits so well with this character <3 very bold and free... with a side of Burton-ness ;D

[identity profile] devidarkwolf.livejournal.com 2009-12-11 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
Very Burton-like with the usage of bold lines and harsh colors. I love it!

This is gorgeous, moody and dark with that Burtonesque whimsy in the face of that darkness :) A lovely portrait of Sally.

How gorgeous is this???? I love watercolour, and you wield it very well! I love the shadows on her body and the delicate details of her face and stitches ♥

Oh, I have to agree -- your style plays SO well to Burton's. Wonderful color-mixing. Great job!

I love the way you do shading, omg. And the subtlety of the mood. It looks very Dave McKean.

This is really gorgeous. The style, with the heavy lines and the colours, really suits it.
alias_sqbr: the symbol pi on a pretty background (I like pi!)

This is very evocative and understated, I like it.

How lovely--the style you used really seems to fit the movie. :)

Ooh, this is super pretty. :) I love your color choices, and the shading on her "skin." Such an appropriately moody piece, also (both in her pose and the general starkness/lack of background detail). Poor Sally.

So sad. And I think the watercolor adds nicely to the stitched-together nature of the character.

w0000t! I love it! :D Watercolours, too. So impressed with the traditional media XD I think you captured her angst well - also, Christmas themed for Yuletart. Extra win! <3

How pretty! This is nice!

It's lovely, it really captures her. and the mood is eerie and yet soft, like it should be for this fandom. awesome job!

[identity profile] dualbunny.livejournal.com 2009-12-11 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
She's lovely--so melancholy and perfect. And I love the watercolor and inking. She looks so delicate compared to the chair--like it's another thing trapping her there.

I love how the quality of the washes support the sadness of the composition--just lovely.

Oh, this is so pretty and sad! Watercolors are the perfect media for a picture like this, and I think your art style suits Burton's world really well.

Oh, watercolours! You've gotta love them! <333

[identity profile] guinsky.livejournal.com 2009-12-12 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Scratchy! You worked well with the variations in ink line, and the shape of the background wash gives it a wonderful composition. Really nice, really eloquent.

beautiful! great colors and love that background effect.

[identity profile] jenzay.livejournal.com 2009-12-14 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Lovely painting~ I don't see enough watercolours. The medium is really suited for this piece, too, with the textures and luminosity.

The watercolours here are so fantastic -- the way they bleed over just a little bit into the separate patchwork parts of Sally, but in some places seem to hardly cover what they need to, like there's slips of colour missing. I really like it! Wonderful stuff!

[identity profile] ani-bester.livejournal.com 2009-12-20 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
The watercolor is phenomenal. I love the dark background, it's clean and brings such contrast to the image. She looks so vulnerable there, i's touching in a bittersweet way.

[identity profile] rane-ab.livejournal.com 2009-12-20 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, absolutely lovely! :D

[identity profile] glockgal.livejournal.com 2009-12-31 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
So fabulous - I LOVE the big brush of watercolour background that sets up the mood, and then Sally curled up on a chair, I mean. I feel like I should be incredibly melancholy with this, but something about the way Sally is looking off to the side, almost distracted or thoughtful gives this a whole new perspective of hope. Which is pretty awesome!

Hee, Dave McKean is always a big inspiration to how I put down the lines. Thanks!

Glad you liked it. :) Thanks for the comments.

Lol, the bleeding is me being impatient to put the paint down and not waiting for it to dry properly... :)
Thanks!
