Giftart for Emmuzka!

Title: Here Is Your Verse
Gift for: [livejournal.com profile] emmuzka
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] reflectedeve
Rating:: PG
Fandom: bandom (Fall Out Boy)
Characters: Pete Wentz/Patrick Stump
Artist notes: Hey, so I really liked your note about a "scene out of an imaginary fic." Originally I had planned to just do a single snapshot, but I think more and more sequentially these days, so . . . two panels, not quite a stand-alone and not quite a whole comic. I hope you like. Happy holidays!
Summary: So I see this as a scene out of a high school AU of some kind. (The kind which isn't set in their "real" younger years, but instead is more . . . them as they are now, only in high school. Anyway.) Clearly, Pete has done something to piss Patrick off or hurt his feelings, and there has much angst and separation. Unable to express himself any other way, Pete has written a song for Patrick, to serenade him under his window! Unfortunately, Pete can't really write music, isn't much of a singer (this isn't time for screamo), and isn't particularly stellar on Joe's borrowed acoustic guitar. However, I'm sure the lyrics are very stirring (in a heavily-metaphorical Wentzian way), and his heart is definitely in the right place. :) (Patrick probably rolls his eyes, but starts talking to him again, and they patch it up.)

I don't particularly like Fall Out Boy, and I never understood bandom, but this is really, really cute, and very, very well done. I love the lawn-flamingo, and the :D?s kill me. Lovely job, this is damn sweet.

Holy wow, this is awesome! I know absolutely nothing about FoB, but it's a great comic regardless.

This is adorable! The flamingo is an awesome touch!

Adding my 'awwwwwwwwwwww' to the bunch, as well as saying that your style is simply fantastic. I've seen other people do stuff along these lines before (stylistically, not story wise) and usually it leaves me kind of flat, but this just keeps me hooked. The expressions are so much fun, and there's so much to look at that I keep going back to it and finding something new! Great job <3

This is just lovely. I adore the layout - the double panel along the left is especially fine. I think your decision to not use dialogue really works too [the :D is super cute and is so Pete.] Everyone's already commenting on the most excellent lawn flamingo, but I'm enamoured with that Bowie poster in Patrick's room.

Really, it's just beautiful.

That is SO CUTE and such a fabulous idea! I love the wobbly notes, the dialogue in emoticons (instead of right-side-up smiley faces, hee!) and the indie-comic look of the whole thing is just freakin' *priceless*. What a lucky recipient, and hooray for creating such a glorious piece of art!

omg this reminds me of professional comics stuff i've seen. LOVE your use of greys and hatching to create depth and texture. what a great way to tell a story without using any words. the panel with that flamingo (i think?) is especially awesome.

Very cute and wonderful technique!

I love it, thank you! I couldn't think anything nicer than this :D

I love the composition of the comic page, by the way, it's really balanced and it flows nicely. And the different background colorings and the way the grass is drawn definitely tells that's it's a night time, hands down. Really cute :D

I really love it, the clean lines and the way you contained a whole little story in one page. And the ":D? :D?" killed me. That is Pete in a nutshell.

Precious!!
You really captured their likeness so well! I love their little ♥ eyes at each other - canon! ;)

NAWWWW IT'S SOOOOO ROMANTIC!! He's on his knees! He's serenading! And the other dude is so totally in love, it's just so adorable. I love your indie comic style - there's so much great inkwork in your black and white layering and cross-hatching, everything is so clear and distinct in each panel. There is so much love that's gone into this, it makes me feel all warm and gushy just to look at it. <3!

[identity profile] loonylupinlover.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Another non-bandom person here who loves your style to pieces :) Pete is so cheerfully awkward and Patrick so flattered! The crosshatching is wonderful and like everyone else, I must give mad props for the flamingo. Awesome piece :)

Beautifully done. I adore this.
