Summary: Steampunk!AU. The Pegasus Expedition journeys to a distant archipelago where they find the beautiful deserted City of the Ancients, awaken the deadly Wraith fleets, and become entangled in the politics of the God-Kings and their City-States. Here, John and Rodney escape from the city of the Serpent-God in stolen Death Gliders.
Notes: Thank you Mific, for the SGA inspiration. Your request for "Any setting. Any type of wings" got me speculating - in a Steampunk!AU are the Puddlejumpers and Death Gliders individual winged antigravity transports instead of small spacecraft? I chose to paint Death Gliders because the Goa'uld designs were gorgeous, and I wanted to play around with some of those elements – plus the thought of a SGA team vs Apophis confrontation was fun.

Thank you! I had a very strong inspiration of colour, design and concept, and everything else just worked out easily (I love those sorts of paintings!).

I enjoyed thinking up ideas for this AU as I was working on it, but it would be great if someone was inspired to write the story :) (I can come up with plots, but can't write my way out of wet tissues, either :D )

Truthfully, I have no idea what that red crystal is. When I was mocking up the design and colours, it needed something red in that location to balance, and then I had to build it into the image.

I figure, though, that during their escape, they took with them a few goa'uld things (like the staff weapon and the ribbon device) and have just discovered that the ribbon device activates it. Cue distracted Rodney and John thinking maybe now is not the best time to investigate. And Apophis' sending an army after them to get it back :D

Oh wow, this is absolutely gorgeous. The composition and lighting are fantastic, and I love the massive amounts of worldbuilding you've implied here. And their facial expressions! This is just lovely.

Thank you, I'm very happy with the way it turned out! The Renaissance angels influence wasn't intentional to start with but the more I blocked in the colours and poses, the more obvious it was just what my concept was influenced by :)

Thank you! I couldn't just paint John and Rodney flying - they had to be goa'uld steampunk angels (my brain is indeed an odd place)and then I had to think up SOME explanation for it! :D

I sometimes have really strong inspirations (in this case colour, composition, poses etc) and then I'm half way through the painting before I realise Oh, Renaissance angels, of course! That's the inspiration! :)
